Former pro-surfers to fight against suicide
In the weekend of 23/24 august Kurt Nyholm organized a tag team surf competition to open up the conversation about suicide. With support of various sponsors the competition was a warm success bringing former pro-surfers and surfers from the local community together.
Deaths by suicide in Australia occur among males at a rate three times greater than that for females. For every death by suicide, it is estimated that as many as 30 people attempt to end their lives. That is approximately 65,300 suicide attempts each year.
Head Space is a Australian non-profit organisation which is a (online) platform providing tailored and holistic mental health support to 12 – 25 year olds. With a focus on early interventaion, we work with young people to provide support at a critical time in their lives – to help them back on track and strengthen their ability to manage their mental health in the future.
